So as you know I’m on my way to get my body back into shape post twins (and by the way they were born 8 weeks ago today).  So how have I been doing?  Well I haven’t done a thing. Yep. Nothing.  I just haven’t figured out how to fit exercise back into my daily/weekly routine.

I think one of my problems is that I have the twins taking their day naps in the living room where I would be working out.  So if they are sleeping I can’t be jumping around next to them, right?  So today I am trying to have their “after lunch nap” in their room and create an official nap time so I can possibly workout then.

I think my other problem is that I feel embarassed to workout in front of my babysitters.  I do have college girls helping me Monday – Friday.  I’m sure this may sound excessive, but with twins its so difficult to do the feedings alone or do anything else besides caring for them. I salute the moms with multiples out there that do it all the time on their own.  I don’t know how you go grocery shopping, or take a shower, or do anything without help.

Which leads to my other problem, of course the twins don’t stay on schedule or act perfectly after each feed, so having a set time for a trainer or make a class is practically impossible.  So I truly need to workout in my home.  I live in a condo building so I can do downstairs to the teeny workout room, but then I feel selfish/guilty to leave the babysitter alone just to go workout.

And I don’t know about you but I tend to dream big and set unrealistic goals for myself.  So here’s what I thought I could do: have a trainer 3 days a week, go to the pilates studio 2 days a week, and throw in some cardio 5 days a week.  Ok, now that I see this on paper and recongize my reality, this is not going to work.

Today Brooke Griffin, founder of Skinny Mom, came over to practice the bootcamp workout for this Saturday and I was forced to go down stairs to the teeny workout room and workout.  Of course she came right at feeding time (because the twins never want to stay on schedule when you want them to – haha!) so she was able to wait so we could workout.  I feel so much better after working out. Plus the babysitter (who happened to be my mother-in-law) survived without me as did the twins.

So at least I was able to get one workout in this week and it at least showed me that I can do it. I just have to go downstairs and workout, even if its just for a 1/2 hour.   And I obviously need to set realistic goals.  I don’t need to be perfect in 30 days.

So here’s my goal for next week:  just get my butt downstairs into my teeny workout room at least 3 times for at least 30 minutes of some type of cardio.
