As moms, we are often called upon to take care of everyone else in our lives: kids, husbands, and often a host of other family members. With spring activities piling onto your already full to-do list, you may be wondering when in the world you’ll get a break. Don’t wait for summer vacation to relax – recreate your ideal relaxation experience this Mother’s Day from your own home!
I love to be able to treat myself to a Do-It-Myself treatment at home. Inspired by the Kona Coffee and Vanilla Facial at the Moana Lani Spa at the Moana Surfrider Hotel in Honolulu, this DIY scrub will leave your skin feeling energized and renewed. The invigorating smell is a great boost in the morning and always leaves me daydreaming of our beautiful island state. As if you needed an extra reason to treat yourself, coffee grounds used in beauty treatments have been shown to reduce the appearance of cellulite. What are you waiting for?
To recreate this high-end spa treatment from one of Honolulu’s top hotels, you’ll need:
Kona Coffee & Vanilla Scrub
- 2 tablespoons of coffee beans (I prefer Kona to keep it close to the Hawaiian inspiration, but you can use any bean)
- 2 tablespoons of rice
- 1 whole vanilla bean
- Either: Your favorite body gel or a mixture of olive oil and warmed honey
I mix the 2 tablespoons of coffee beans with 2 tablespoons rice (I prefer organic rice, and you can test different brands to see which one you like best–there are lots to chose from). Then I use one whole vanilla bean (I split and chunk it).
I toss the coffee beans, rice and vanilla bean into a coffee grinder, and turn it on until it gets to the right grind. Usually, I try to make it more of a medium grind–not too course, but not too fine. Add this gritty scrub to your choice of gel and scrub away!
Body scrubs are such great tools for opening up your pours, removing dead skin, and improving your blood circulation, leaving your skin with a smoother and healthier look and feel! When you do-it-yourself, you can take advantage of all the benefits of the body scrub, but you won’t have to worry about the cost or delay of making an appointment at your local spa. After a hard day, you can mix up a batch and let your skin revive!
You can also store any extra ingredients in an air-tight container, and then give yourself another rejuvenating experience again when you feel the need. Save your sanity and give yourself the Ultimate DIY Beauty Treatment this Mother’s Day!
