I was convinced by a friend to try the TRX and Bootcamp classes at Keep It Tight Fitness in Northern Cincinnati. It is a women’s only boutique type gym. I have done TRX a few times before and have loved it. (For those of you who don’t know what TRX is, check it out http://www.trxtraining.com/ ). And of course, I still teach some bootcamp type classes so I am always interested in seeing what others are doing…so I pulled a double header.
First, I have never been to a women’s only gym and boy was it nice. No muscle heads grunting in the mirror and no weird stares…it was fantastic. Both classes started off with some treadmill or stair climber work…it was so nice to have others on the treadmill doing what I was doing. I knew that I wouldn’t stop if others kept going, which is a huge benefit for this type of exercise class. First, let’s talk about TRX.
TRX is a suspension trainer that uses body weight to do the moves. Well, my body weight must be more than enough because the class was hard and very effective. I felt it all the next day. The instructor, Rachel was very good. She checked form, she showed the moves and she offered modifications. This class is no joke and if you want a complete body workout TRX may be just what you need. By the time the class was done I wanted to hit the floor and take a nap; but no time for that I was going to bootcamp.
Back to back classes is not something I recommend unless you are very fit and want an extreme challenge. Putting TRX and bootcamp back to back was extremely challenging and maybe a little bit silly since I was sore the next day. So for part two of my double header let’s discuss bootcamp. As I stated before the class started with cardio on the treadmill, sprint intervals on hills…YUCK…but it got the heart going and then it was onto the weighted part of the workouts. 500’s…25 reps of 4 exercise 5 times without rest. Johnnie, the instructor showed everyone what to do, made modifications and checked on those who seemed to be beginners. She was very motivating and the class was hard. It ended with stairmill work and to be quite honest I was pretty glad it was over…I was exhausted.
So my take on Keep it Tight. I loved the facility. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. It would be a gym that I definitely would join if it weren’t so far from my house. Their menu of classes and offerings as well as personal training is huge. And again for you clothing junkies; they have adorable clothing in their store. Oh and the classes were kick butt.
