skinny caramel macchiato

I am obsessed with Starbucks!!  This wonderful establishment is the reason I fell in love with coffee!  This time of year, all the fall and holiday flavors start coming out.  I love the Salted Caramel Mocha, Peppermint Mocha, and my newest obsession that I discovered this summer…White Chocolate Raspberry Frappuccino!!

Since I’m also equally obsessed with trying to eat healthy, I thought I would share some tips and healthier alternatives that I’ve discovered at Starbucks…and some that you can make yourself at home:

A Grande sized Salted Caramel Mocha is 420 calories.  Trade it for a Skinny Caramel Macchiato. Only 140 calories!

A Grande sized Peppermint Mocha is 410 calories.  The Skinny Peppermint Mocha, which uses non-fat milk and sugar-free syrup, comes in at only 130 calories! Order a Tall, and it’s only 100 calories!

The White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino is 440 calories by itself before adding the raspberry syrup!  So for this one, try ordering an Iced White Chocolate Mocha with non-fat milk and no whip (only 230 calories).  Enjoy it as is, or take it home and blend it with fresh raspberries!

Want to know how to make your favorite drink skinny?

  • Opt for nonfat milk.  This will save up to 120 calories and 15g of fat.
  • Switch to sugar-free syrup.  This can trim off approximately 20 calories and 5g of sugar per pump!
  • Hold the whip.  Whipped cream adds about 50 to 110 calories and 5 to 11g of fat to your drink!  Who are we kidding?  If it has whipped cream, it’s not coffee…it’s a dessert!

Here are some additional ways to save calories in your favorite drink:

  • Choose an iced drink.  When you add ice, you displace some of the milk.  So while you might be missing out on a little calcium, you’ll be saving calories.  For example, a tall Skinny Vanilla Latte is 90 calories, but the iced version is only 60.
  • Add espresso!  A shot of espresso is 5 calories.  Adding a shot displaces an ounce of the milk, which lowers the overall calories.  For example, an Iced Tall Nonfat Latte is about 70 calories.  Add a shot of espresso, and you have an Iced Double Tall Nonfat Latte at approximately 60 calories.
  • Ask for extra foam.  The foamier the milk, the less calories in the drink.  This is why a Cappuccino has fewer calories than a Caffe Latte.
