I hope all of the local skinny mom followers will join me in racing the Heart Mini Marathon. If you decide to run, join the skinny mom team; it won’t cost extra and it will show Cincinnati that we are truly an inspiring bunch. Your husbands, sisters, brothers, cousins, aunts, uncles, parents and whomever else can join our team. The more the merrier. There are a multitude of events: a walk, 5k, 15k, and half marathon as well as a kids 1 mile run…please consider joining us.

So, why the Heart Association and why do I run this race? I run this race for my nephew Joe who was born not only with Down syndrome but with a heart defect that required him to have open heart surgery when he was six months old. If he can survive heart surgery, I can certainly run to honor him.
I run for my friend who had a genetic defect and needed a valve replacement. She changed her lifestyle and is living a very healthy life; without heart research who knows where she would be today.
I run for my friends and her husband. Her husband had quintuple bypass surgery on her birthday two years ago..what a birthday gift. I run because without the monies raised by the heart association there may be two little girls without a father.
I run for everyone who has had a heart attack, everyone who will have a heart attack and all of those who will need the resources of the Heart Association to better their lives and survive.
Even if you haven’t had a personal experience with Heart Disease, I encourage you to participate in the race. The number of red hats (heart disease survivors) will astonish you and one or two may even pass you on race day.
Be fit. Be happy. Be humble.
