Make up is a must have for nearly every woman out there. Even if you are blessed with natural beauty, there’s no denying that makeup can help to enhance your best features while concealing your worst; however, as we age, our makeup tricks must change to accommodate the changes in our skin. Follow these simple tips to get the most out of your makeup.

Say bye-by to foundation… While foundation may have been a lifesaver in your 20’s for covering blemishes and unwanted imperfections, once we get into our 30’s and beyond, foundation can give a masky appearance often accentuating fine lines and wrinkles. Instead, opt for a good tinted moisturizer like Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Tone Correcting UV Moisturizer, or an illuminating concealer like Lancôme Photogenic Skin concealer. Apply only to the areas where you truly need it like under eyes and where blemishes or redness may appear, and use a cosmetic sponge or foundation brush to do so. Finish with a light dusting of powder to the T-zone only to avoid a caked on chalky look.

Go for lashes… As we age, our lashes become lighter and sparser which can make our eyes begin to fade away in to the background of our face. To combat this issue, put some real focus on your lashes. Begin by always using a lash curler, holding on each eye for 20-30 seconds. Next follow up with either a fiber extension mascara like Maybelline Illegal Length or a volumizing one like Maybelline One by One, and always go for the darkest shade of black available. If you still feel as though your lashes are lacking drama, apply some false lashes for that extra pop of wow-factor! Whether you choose individual lashes for just the corners or a full set for a total eye-opening look, nothing makes you look younger than big, flirty lashes.

Don’t neglect the eyebrows… Much like lashes, our eyebrows also become lighter and sparser as we age making our face appear older. To give some youthful structure back to your face, always make sure to fill in brows with a brow powder. Pencils were fine when you were younger, but as we age we need to create the illusion of more volume in our brows. So skip the pencil and look for a brow powder close to your shade of hair color. One of our favorites is Anastasia Brow Powder, which comes in variety of shades to create your most naturally beautiful brow.

It’s all rosy… While skipping a blush when you were 26 may have been an option, in your 30’s and beyond this is one mistake you should never make. As we age, our cheeks lose much of that natural glow we had when we were younger, but that doesn’t mean we can’t fake it! For aging skin, a cream blush like one from NARS, typically works best. Pick a rosy or pink/peach shade to give your face an instant youthful glow.

Pump up the volume… While you may have once been blessed with a voluminous pout, chances are your lips have become thinner with age. To help give your lips that plump look of the past, begin with a lip liner close to your natural lip color. Next apply a balm or Chapstick to combat and dryness or peeling and top it all off with a plumping, shimmery gloss like Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Polish. The slight tingle in the gloss will give lips that beautiful bee-stung look while the light reflecting color will offer an extra boost of volume.

So come on ladies, defy age once and for all and start putting your best face forward. Remember, beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but youthful skin is in the hands of a great makeup tip!
