Summer birthday parties are the best time to get kids and families active! But making arrangements for your child’s birthday party can sometimes be a daunting task. Trying to secure a baker for the cake and a caterer for the food, finding a great location, buying all the decorations, writing out all the invitations and, FINALLY, hosting the party itself.

A great way to incorporate healthy and fun activities while on a budget is to have the party in your own backyard or local park! Set up a Slip ‘N Slide, water balloon toss and sprinkler system to have some fun! All that water, sun and running around will surely create an appetite for those hungry kiddos. Why not create a healthy, kid-friendly menu to go along with their fun-filled, active day?

Finger foods are always a big hit with kids. Skip the caterer for this event and go for celery sticks with almond butter and raisins, chilled fruit salad, skewered deli meat with mozzarella cubes and cherry tomatoes, and cooled fresh lemonade. These healthy finger foods will provide extra energy and nutrients in a fun, budget-friendly way.

Every child’s birthday party needs a cake! But for this outdoor, fun summer party, a typical sugary cake from a bakery is not necessary. Why not use a watermelon? Simply cut both ends off of a watermelon to make it stand, then peel the entire fruit. Next add a few cut pieces of fruit, place a candle on top and you have a budget-friendly, beautiful, and healthy birthday cake!
