Playing “races” with my little one… get to play and get exercise at the same time!!

I know by the time you guys read this, Father’s Day will have already passed, but I just wanted to thank my hubby for being such an amazing Dad.  I knew when I married him he was an amazing, loving, caring, genuine, honest, hard working, and of course, very handsome man.  I mean why else would I agree to pledge the rest of my life to him?  ♥ We also share a love of health and fitness, that is, after all, how we met.  He came to work as a Physical Therapist in an outpatient clinic where I worked as a Physical Therapists Assistant, and as they say, the rest is history.  Now that we have a 2 year old daughter, I am even more amazed at just how awesome he is.  She has brought such joy to our lives and I feel truly blessed to have them both.

Like I said before, we share in our desire to stay healthy and fit, so we always try to find fun and active family activities that we can all participate in.  I highly recommend that you do the same with your family.  Fitness doesn’t have to happen in a gym all the time.  It can be fun and playful.  Just try keeping up with your kiddos on the playground, basketball court, or at a water park.  Geez, no telling how many calories you can burn climbing, running,  jumping, and have you been on a swing lately? Talk about getting a core, bicep, and leg workout while keeping that thing going!  Or what about swimming? Water is one of the best ways to get resistance training plus cardio while you are getting to spend quality time with your family AND it’s FUNtastic all at the same time!
So, my challenge to you this summer is to just get out there with the family to play, play, play and get the added benefit of burning some extra calories! Your kiddos (and your waistline) will thank you for it!
