What’s the best way to counter the afternoon slump that rolls around at 3:00 P.M.? Instead of hitting up the vending machine for a snack or reaching for an energy drink, look for snack foods that are rich in magnesium. Not only do magnesium-rich foods help fight off fatigue, but they are lower in sugar and calories than other processed snacks. Several studies have shown that getting your recommended daily allowance of magnesium can cut your risk of colon cancer by 34% and your risk of rectal cancer by 55%. Our favorite magnesium-rich food is sunflower seeds. Sunflower seeds contain 150 mg of magnesium, almost 40% of the recommended daily allowance per 1/2 cup serving! Sprinkle sunflower seeds over a low fat yogurt and you have the perfect fatigue-fighting snack. Some of our other favorite magnesium- rich foods include:
  • Spinach
  • Pumpkin Seeds
  • Avocados
  • Peanuts
  • Cashews
  • Almonds
