- Athletic/Running Skirts. I used to think that “real” runners didn’t wear skirts. I’ve changed my mind. I’m a real runner and all I wear are skirts. I got my first running skirt when I was pregnant with my 3rd child. I was looking for maternity workout clothes and the maternity running skirt by runningskirts.com was the only thing that I found that I actually liked. I was skeptical at first but the skirt quickly won me over. After my son was born, I converted to Skirt Sports Gym Girl Ultra. I tried many a skirt, but the Gym Girl Ultra is by far the best. It has it all. Not too long, not too short. The compression shorts underneath have the perfect amount of “squeeze”. The shorts don’t ride up and prevent nasty chafing. For me, the Gym Girl Ultra is the foundation of pretty much every workout outfit, and I have more of them than I care to admit to my husband.
- Lululemon. Lulu is one of my favorite brands of workout clothes. I love the cute little ruffly details they find a way to incorporate into their flattering designs. Don’t get me wrong, these are still very functional and durable (as long as you care for them properly) workout clothes. One of my favorite pieces of clothing from Lululemon is the Define Jacket. I wear this jacket everywhere. It looks great and has some thoughtful details. It has thumbholes and for whatever reason, I’m a sucker for thumbholes. One of the nicest things about this jacket (and quite a few other Lulu jackets) are what they call “cuffins”. What’s a cuffin? It’s an extra flap of material on the cuff of the jacket that you can pull over your hands, kind of like a mitten, to keep them warm on chilly walks or runs. I am eagerly awaiting the opening of the full store in Omaha… more choices for me.
- Sweaty Bands. Like skirts, I’ve tried lots of different headbands to help keep my hair under control while I workout. Sweaty Bands are the only kind I’ve bought twice. I love them and have a whole Sweaty Band wardrobe. So what makes them awesome? They don’t slip and fall out. I put one on when I get dressed and 2 hours of spinning, running, circuit training, etc. later, it’s still in place just soaking wet with sweat. Sweaty Bands makes headbands in several thicknesses and I have some of each type, but my favorites are the thick (1 ½” inch) bands. This has nothing to do with function, I just prefer the way the thick bands look.
Now it’s your turn. What are some of your favorite workout clothes or accessories?
