For some, the thought of waking up at 3 am on the Friday after Thanksgiving inspires them. They can barely sleep a wink just thinking about all of the deals they will score, presents they will find and of course money they will save. For the rest of us however, the Friday after Thanksgiving (better known as Black Friday) is quite frankly a complete nightmare! Personally speaking, I refuse to leave the house at all, for anything. If I am forced to leave, I usually try hold off until as late in the day as possible. I used to feel a slight sting of guilt as I lay on my couch watching television or unpacking Christmas decorations. I would think, “Am I crazy? Think about all of the money I could be saving. I really just need to suck it up, put on my big girl pants and go fight the crowd.” That is of course until I heard about Cyber-Monday.
Cyber-Monday is the term used for the Monday immediately following Black Friday. Much like Black Friday, Cyber-Monday is a one day special event; an event where retailers put the most desirable items on sale anywhere from 20-65% off. The big difference with Cyber-Monday is that you don’t have to leave your house (or even the comfort of your Snuggie) to reap the benefits.
Some of the items you can expect to find on sale during Cyber-Monday are:
- Books, games and electronics at Amazon.com
- Tv’s, stereos, Ipads, Laptops and DVD’s at BestBuy.com
- HD Tv’s, cameras, household items and clothing at Walmart.com
- Clothing, shoes and accessories at Nike.com
And this is just to name a few. Typically speaking, the rule of thumb is if you have a favorite retailer, check their site on Cyber-Monday. Chances are you’ll be overwhelmed with amazing deals. After that, it’s easy. Simply shop and buy. It’s really that simple! Some retailers even offer discounts on shipping in addition to merchandise.
So this year, instead of dashing through the crowd aimlessly fighting for that last big screen television or newest X-box game, why not sleep in? Enjoy your Friday, enjoy your weekend. When Monday arrives you can put your game face on and get your shopping done in just a matter of a few simple clicks (and without any stress or minor injuries). Happy shopping mamas!
Skinnymom Fact: Cyber Monday sales have increased by at least 100 million dollars each year since 2005.
