My hubby and I are not one of those couples who have a sitter on speed dial. Most of our family lives an hour or two away from us. And the ones that are close? Well, they have lives too. So, when we want a date night, but still have the kiddos we have to get the imagination (and the internet) fired up! I have a few go-to places for GREAT at-home date night ideas. The Dating Divas website is my absolute favorite source for (in their own words) “creative, inexpensive and innovative dating ideas that will bring joy, fun and excitement back into the relationship”. Pinterest (of course, who doesn’t love Pinterest) and Google (or “The Google” as we say at home).

I created a list for the hubby and me to do this year and wanted to share a few with you. I KNOW we aren’t the only household that has the dreaded “No Sitter-itis”.

Backwards Date Night: OK, so this one is a little cooky but I think it’s adorable and can’t wait to have this one next month. You do everything backwards starting with the END of the night first (you know what I mean ladies) and then work your way to the beginning. The Dating Divas have even provided you with an invitation that you have to read in the mirror and a menu you create yourself (starting with dessert of course). Click here for more info!

Read a book together. Pick a book and take turns reading a chapter a night. (OK, this one has been going on for a few months now. Not ashamed to admit we have been reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone since… oh… October).

Star Gazing: One I can’t wait to do that I picked up from Skinny Mom last year and forgot about. Just lay out a blanket, stare up at the stars and reconnect. In the words of Darla, “awfully romantical.”

Fondue Dinner for Two: I know this seems mean to do without the kiddos. So, just schedule a family date night for another time! How much fun could the two of you have with melted chocolate? Personally, I want to do this picnic style in the living room with a romantic movie and fruit. But, you could totally add a pizza dip with crackers, popcorn and cheese. Just Fondue it!

Play a game together. My hubby and I are very competitive. We love to challenge each other to board games and card games (who can find the most out of state tags, who can get the most pieces of clothing in the laundry basket from here). It may sound corny, but it really is a lot of fun!
