My husband and I were frequent travelers before we had Noah, and we didn’t want that to change just because we had a baby. I’ve blogged about my inexperience with kids before I had a baby, and figuring out how to travel with one is another step in learning how to do it all. I just returned from a fun but busy week. Three cities in seven days, all with an almost one year old in tow. So, before I left, I read “Baby Traveling Tips for the Clueless Chick.” This book is one of three books in the Tips for The Clueless Chick series written by Jennifer Durbin.
Let’s be honest. I’m a small business owner and a semi-stay at home mom, so I don’t have much time to read. The thing I love about these books is they are short (around 100 pages or less), to the point, and packed with great tips. My recent 7 day trip included a couple of 4 hour car rides, a couple of 2 hour flights where I was flying solo with Noah, and a hotel stay. This book includes tips for leaving the house, eating on the go, how to pack, and what to do at the airport as well as in the car. Here are some of my favorite tips mentioned in the book:
1) When staying in a hotel, call ahead to request a crib or pack n play be placed in your room. But, always pack a sheet as the ones provided by the hotel rarely fit. From my experience, they are questionably clean or are forgotten altogether.
2) When staying in a hotel, bring a small night-light for baby’s corner of the room. Let me tell you, it’s not fun tripping over luggage and furniture in a dark, unfamiliar space trying to get to the baby.
3) When flying, put toys or snacks in an unexpected container. I put Noah’s snacks in a clear ziplock bag, and he played with the bag of snacks for 20 minutes while in flight. I was amazed.
4) Stay relaxed. The baby can sense your stress. I had to remind myself of this while waiting at the gate before boarding and Noah was screaming. I could see my fellow travelers thinking “please don’t let me be seated next to them.”
From tips when you’re pregnant, to tips when you’re traveling or planning a party, the entire series of books makes a great gift and can be purchased ($9.99 for one or $24.99 for the entire series) at www.cluelesschick.com.
