Making your own baby food at home is a great way to save money while also making sure your little one is getting the freshest ingredients! While many moms shy away from DIY baby food for fear of the added time or difficulty, it is actually easier than you think! This simple 2-ingredient recipe is sure to make your baby and your wallet happy.

Applesauce and Banana Surprise Baby Food


  • 2 apples (look for Gala, Macintosh, or Brae-burn)
  • 1 ripe banana (ripe bananas will be naturally sweeter)


  1. Peel, core, and cut apples into chunks
  2. Place apple chunks into a small pan with just enough water to cover apples and boil until tender.
  3. Mash apples with a potato masher or use a food processor to puree apples. Set aside.
  4. Peel banana and mash with a fork until smooth.
  5. Add banana to applesauce and stir until smooth. You can also use a food processor to mix to desired consistency.
  6. Top applesauce and banana with wheat germ or crushed Cherrios®
