After running around all day dropping kids off at various activities, buying yet another gallon of milk and prepping dinner, you’re really stressed. Finding time to sit down and relax is necessary for your mental health. If “mommy time” means the occasional glass of red wine, you may be helping yourself even more than you thought!

There are proven benefits of drinking a glass of wine, especially red wine. According to Mayo Clinic, drinking red wine can be heart healthy. Antioxidants in red wine called polyphenols may help protect the lining of blood vessels in your heart. A polyphenol called resveratrol is one substance in red wine that’s gotten attention. Resveratrol is an antioxidant found in the skin of the grapes used to make red wine. It helps reduce the bad cholesterol and prevent clots. It also has an anti-aging effect and helps you to sleep better. Those two sort of go hand-in-hand, don’t they? The better we sleep, the better we look. But, keep in mind that the research on resveratrol has only been done on animals so far. However, Mayo Clinic is cautious to encourage drinking, because drinking too much is far unhealthier than the benefits.

Remember, those benefits are based on moderation, not frat party drinking. Four ounces, not four glasses, is one serving. Cheers, ladies.
