It only takes a few small steps to turn your health around. Better yet, it only takes a few MINUTES! Follow these five recommendations for a quick pick-me-up:

1. Breathe – When we’re feeling just a bit down and out, our first tendency is to take short, quick breaths. Take a moment to relax; focus on lengthening your inhales and filling the belly completely. On your exhale, make sure to let out every inch of breath before starting the cycle over. Oxygen fills the body with energy, boosts the nervous system, and can rejuvenate the mind if we let it.

2. Sip Green Tea – The antioxidants in green tea can help boost your heart health. Whether you prefer this beverage hot or cold, drink it freshly brewed to enjoy the full benefits. It’s even been shown to help aid in weight loss.

3. Take a Walk – Cardio has always been a well-known promoter of all things healthy. Just getting up out of your chair and taking a quick walk around the block can increase blood flow, improve heart health, and give your body a burst of energy. Get up and get moving a few times each day to combat fatigue.

4. Call a Friend or Family Member – There’s nothing that beats the feeling you get when you talk to someone who makes you smile and laugh. Laughter, like a workout, releases endorphins, which are the body’s natural happy pill. Even a smile can immediately change your mood and help relax your mind and muscles.

5. Listen to Music – Whether you dance and sing along, or just enjoy the melody, music is a great way to improve your health. It’s known to reduce stress and boost your mood. Using the right tempo for workouts can help push you through tough spots, or play something slow and melodic to help lull you to sleep.
