Grilling and hot dogs go hand in hand in the summer. Keeping it simple and enjoying the outdoors is what summer is all about and enjoying a good hot dog fresh off the grill is the perfect warm weather meal. While a traditional hotdog is fantastic, here are some easy ways to add in a bit more color and nutrition in one of summer’s favorite meals.
Avocado: Avocado can be added to pretty much anything, right? It tastes great on hot dogs and is full of nutritious benefits.

Pineapple or peaches with jalapeño: I love a good sweet and spicy mix. Slicing up some pineapple or peaches with jalapeño creates a great blend of flavors to top your hot dog. If you like a lot of spice, mix in a small amount of cayenne pepper as well!
Arugula: I love arugula and it goes wonderfully with a ton of foods, including hot dogs. Again, feel free to add a small amount of a light dressing, such as a vinaigrette, to create an even bigger flavor.
The toppings to add to hot dogs are endless! There are countless fruits or vegetables could be used as toppings. Consider mixes that you would use when making a homemade salsa or salad when coming up with ideas. This is a great way not only to add color to the meal, but also nutrients. Offering several different options also makes creating your own hot dog a fun activity to involve the whole family in, including kids! They have the opportunity to try out new fruits and vegetables while having fun creating their own meal.
