As a mom of a 10 month old and a 2 year old, getting out of the house is a daunting task.  Getting to the grocery is a nightmare.  And actually leaving the grocery with everything we need for the week…..well yeah, that just never happens.  So needless to say I have become pretty “crafty” in my home remedy ways.  Here are a few around the house items that can help get you through the day when getting out is just not in the cards!

  1. Vinegar: This is an item I literally purchase by the gallon when I can remember.  It’s an AMAZING cleaner/odor neutralizer.  I use it for wiping down cabinets, cleaning up dog pee…or 2 year old missed the potty again pee.  It’s my favorite thing to use when mopping my hardwood floors.  Just mix with water and go!  The “vinegar odor” doesn’t last, but the beautiful floors do!!
  2. Cinnamon: Imagine your loving husband forgot to empty the diaper genie out…AGAIN!  You wake up to this delightful smell of old pee and poo.  Not pleasant, to say the least.  And of course your glade refills are all out, and there’s not a single candle in the house!  No fear!  Put on a pot of water, add cinnamon ( I also like to add in a little nutmeg and vanilla) bring to a boil, and then let simmer!  VOILA homemade fall fragrance!!  **Never leave the pot unattended, and remember to not let your water get to low and end up scorching your cinnamon!
  3. Honey: Mother Nature has made her visit again, causing that o’so lovely hormonal acne to flare up.  You are completely out of your cream, so what do you do?!  Put a dab of honey over the spots – preferably a raw/organic form if you happened to visit your local farmers market this past weekend. Let it soak in for 15 or so minutes, then rinse off.  Honey is full of natural anti-inflammatories that work wonders to help the swelling in your breakouts.
  4. Baking Soda: Another HUGE lifesaver in my home!  I put baking soda in all my trash cans, fridge, anything that can get smelly.  But it has also come to my rescue a few times when the tube of Crest Toothpaste was used up.  That’s right, it’s a great tooth cleanser.  Just wet your toothbrush, apply baking soda, and scrub those pearly whites.

There you have it!  Four household items that can save you from grocery forgetfulness!
