Motherhood Exaggerated takes readers from diagnosis to remission as eight-year-old Nadia endures the nightmare of potentially terminal bone cancer. In her emotionally charged memoir, Judith Hannan recounts her young daughter’s battle with cancer and how the frightening medical journey sent her into a “heightened state of motherhood”.
I was pulled into this book from the moment I started reading. What I loved most is that Judith Hannan never whitewashes the truth about what she went through as a mother during her daughter’s illness. She admits to her own insecurities, missteps, and moments of weakness. As she and her husband struggle with the harsh demands of their daughter’s surgeries and chemotherapy treatments, they must deal with their own issues and fears while still parenting their other two children.
This was a beautiful and honest look at what childhood cancer can do to a family…both the positive and negative. I couldn’t help but cry along with them at every struggle, and cheer at every small victory Nadia achieved as she battled for her very life.

Oh, I love to read and I’m always looking for something new and inspiring and real!
I think I should win because I am about to have my second child in less than 30 days! I am going in via c-section on the 19th of September. I also have a 2 year old daughter!
Everyone keeps telling me horror stories about being a mom to a second child. I broke my foot when I was 33 weeks pregnant and everyone around me is buzzing about how it is going to be impossible to take care of two children with a broken foot. I think this is Motherhood Exaggerated! I need a new and uplifting book to read and relax during maternity leave to calm my nerves about being a mother of two!
I treasure books that grant me the ability to gain perspective and gratitude for the blessings in my life.
This soundsl ike such a beautiful and inspiriing story. I would love to win a copy of Motherhood Exaggerated, and I think I should because I come from a familty with similar struggles. I grew up with a sister who had a heart defect,a nd I am fully aware of the struggles. I always enjoy stories like this that share faith, inspiration, and honesty. Thank you!
I’d love to be entered! I rarely splurge on books even though I love to read! It would be nice to have a new one to dive into while I’m in the car waiting to pick up kids from school every day! (Three kids in three different schools this year!!)
Great review. Can’t wait to read the book.
Would love to be entered into the contest for this book! I am a mom of 4 great kids, aged 7 to 19 months. A friend’s daughter has a rare kind of cancer and sometimes I think that hugs and quiet support is just not enough. It hurts on the outside looking in and to really know what the family has gone through would be priceless and helpful to me to know how to continue support above and beyond.
