Hello, my name is Hot-Mess Mama, and I am addicted to Facebook. And Pinterest. And blogging, both reading and writing. And I am stressed out. I am losing my first-born to kindergarten in a couple of weeks (sob), and will also be returning to work, which means I won’t even have my mornings with the little one anymore. I need to de-stress and enjoy these last few moments with my babies before they go off and become all grown and stuff. And in order to do that, I need to unplug.
I know. You’re thinking I’m totally crazy for proposing such an idea. But how will you update your blog? How will you catch up with people you don’t even care about your FB friends? How will you find more recipes you’ll probably never make and clothes you’ll never buy yourself? Whatevs. Summer is almost over. I need to unplug.
So I’m challenging myself, and I encourage you to do the same. For these last few glorious moments of summer vacation, I will be trying my hardest to only use my computer when the boys are sleeping. That means no quick little check-ins while they’re playing with LEGOS, no catching up with ultra funny bloggers I wish I knew in real life while they’re watching their morning shows, and no “hang-on guys, I’m just reading something really quickly”. Nope. I will check in with everyone if when they take a nap, and maybe once more after they go down for the night. And instead I’ll play LEGOS. I’ll hold legs on monkey bars. I’ll do laundry. I’ll clean my house. I’ll take blog-worthy pictures. And I’ll de-stress.
(And I’m totally kidding about the whole laundry and clean-the-house thing. Let’s not kid ourselves here.)
Bye. I’ll be back when they’re asleep.
Wow, I already feel better.

Jennifer, great read. This is a story that you can totally relate to, it comes from the heart. Thanks for the upliftment.
Oh I cannot agree more with this! I actually went so far as to temporarily deactivate my Facebook account last week. And you know what? I don’t miss it. I haven’t cleaned my house from top to bottom (haha), but I have been less stressed and more in the present. Who would have thought that something as “innocent” as Facebook would also cause stress? Enjoy the rest of your summer!!
