Do you have a garden filled with cucumbers? Yes, then I have a secret for you! A method of canning pickles that couldn’t be any easier. You only need a few ingredients:
Ingredients
- Cucumbers
- White vinegar
- Water
- Mrs. Wages packet- (available online or in many local grocery stores.)
- If you are new to canning, you will also need a few items to actually preserve the product:
- Hot Water Canner
- Jars
- Lids/Rings
- Ladle
Instructions
- To get started, you need to wash and sterilize your jars by boiling them in hot water for at least 10 minutes.
- Then wash your cucumbers and slice or leave whole for canning.
- Follow the instructions on the Mrs. Wages packet to make the water/vinegar solution.
- Place cucumbers in jars.
- Pour liquid over pickles
- Put hot lids and rings on the jars
- Place filled jars in the hot water bath and process for time listed on packet.
This is a very simple method to preserve food from your garden. It definitely eliminates several ingredients and steps from your grandmother’s pickling method. This method is also great for beginners!
