The Mommy Diaries: How I’m Surviving Parenting Without Killing Anyone
I was sold on this book as soon as I read the subtitle. How many times do we as parents (let me change that to we as moms) feel like everyday is a battle that we just have to survive? If everybody in the house survives, then the day has been a success. In this book, Dallas Louis writes about the early years of her marriage and mommy hood.
From the time my my son was born I have been reading parenting books, but none quite so honest as this one. By sharing her stories of having 3 kids in 26 months and all the “excitement” that goes along with parenting, Dallas made me feel normal. Like some of the struggles that I have had as a wife and mother are shared by other mothers. That I am not alone. This is not your “normal” parenting book, where the author tells you what will be happening at each stage of your child’s life. As we know, every child is different and parenting those children has to be different. Dallas shares her way of parenting and gives the readers tips and strategies that helped her survive (along with all her children).
I love how honest Dallas is with her feelings about motherhood, family relations, in-laws, outlaws, sex and religion. This is a must read for any mom who has ever had one of those moments – you know the moment I am referring to – where you think that you are the only mom that this has ever happened to. Well, trust me, you are not, and reading this book will make you realize that you are in good company. The book is also very entertaining. Once I started reading it, I could not put it down!
